How to: Using Oil Cleansers

One Love Organics oil cleansers are cult favorites. The thought of using an oil to cleanse your skin may sound scary, especially if you have oily skin. But water-based face cleansers alone aren't enough to remove oil-based grime like natural oil build-up, sunscreens, and heavy makeup. Because oil dissolves oil, oil cleansers break up and remove grime and makeup without compromising the skin's natural barrier.

Here's how to use them:

The Double Cleanse

Massage an oil cleanser, like the Botanical B Enzyme Cleansing Oil or the Skin Savior Wonder Balm onto dry skin. Add water to emulsify and dissolve oil buildup. Follow with a foaming cleanser, massage and rinse with lukewarm water (water that's too hot inflames the skin and causes damage and redness).

The double cleanse process is suitable for all skin types, but is especially important to oily, blemish prone skin.

The Single Cleanse

Some oil cleansers are designed to be used on their own, like the Botanical B Enzyme Cleansing Oil. For normal to dry skin types, simply massage into dry skin, emulsify with water, and rinse clean.

BONUS: The Botanical B cleanser features papaya enzymes that digest dead skin buildup. To maximize this benefit, take your time massaging into dry skin before adding water.

With either cleansing style, make sure you're rinsing thoroughly! Pay attention to the jawline, hairline, throat, and nose, which are often neglected spots. Skimping on rinsing may lead to residue build-up, which can cause breakouts, skin irritation, and decrease the results of your favorite treatment product.
