Botox in Missoula: What It Treats, How Long It Lasts and What to Expect
Botox is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the country, and Missoula is no exception. Still, many people who are curious about it have the same questions. What does it actually do? Will I look frozen? How long does it last? Who should I trust with it?
At Skin Chic, licensed medical providers do our injectable treatments, with a medical director overseeing the program. Here's what we tell clients who are considering Botox® Cosmetic for the first time.

What Botox does
Some wrinkles are caused by movement. Every time you frown, squint into the sun on the Clark Fork, or raise your eyebrows, small muscles in your face contract. Over years, those repeated movements leave lines that stay even when your face is relaxed. These are called dynamic wrinkles.
Botox Cosmetic is a purified neurotoxin that blocks the messages sent to facial muscles to contract. That temporarily relaxes the specific muscles behind those lines. When the muscle moves less, the skin over it creases less. Existing lines soften, and new ones are slower to form.
Botox Cosmetic can be used temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe:
Frown lines: the "11s" between your eyebrows
Crow's feet: the lines at the outer corners of your eyes
Forehead lines: the horizontal lines across your forehead
Masseters: relaxing or slimming an overactive jaw muscle
Lip Flip: lifting the top lip to create a fuller look
Lower Face: contours the jawline, smooths wrinkles, and lifts downturned expression
Your provider will talk with you about which areas make sense for your goals.
Will I look frozen?
This is the number-one worry we hear, and it's a fair one. A natural result comes down to the right dose in the right places. That's why the consultation matters as much as the injection.
Our providers look at how your face moves, not just where the lines are. The goal is for you to look rested and refreshed, still able to smile, laugh and show surprise. Most of our clients tell us friends notice they look good but can't say why.
How long Botox lasts
First results: usually within a few days
Full results: about two weeks after treatment
How long it lasts: typically three to four months
As the effect wears off, muscle movement slowly returns and lines gradually come back. Most clients book a treatment every three to four months to keep results steady.

Botox vs. Dysport: what's the difference?
Skin Chic offers both Botox® and Dysport®. Both are FDA-approved neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A, and both soften movement lines. They're made a little differently, and some people find Dysport kicks in a bit faster.
Your provider will recommend the one that fits your goals and history.
What to expect at your appointment
Consultation. You'll talk with a nurse injector or nurse practitioner about your goals, medical history and any medications. They'll watch how your face moves.
Treatment. After cleansing the skin, your provider uses a very fine needle to place small amounts in specific muscles. Most people describe it as a quick pinch. The injections themselves usually take only a few minutes.
Right after. You may see small bumps at the injection points, which usually fade within the hour. Most people go right back to work.
Aftercare basics
Stay upright for about four hours
Don't rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours
Skip hard workouts for 24 hours (including that afternoon ski at Snowbowl)
Hold off on facials or other treatments on the area for two weeks while the results set it
To minimize the risk of bruising, avoid alcohol and NSAIDS like ibuprofin for 24 hours
Your provider will give you specific instructions for your treatment.
Is Botox safe?

In the hands of a trained, licensed provider, Botox Cosmetic has a long safety record. Common side effects are mild: small bruises, brief redness or a headache. Less common effects, like a temporary droopy eyelid, are one more reason to choose an experienced injector.
Botox isn't right for everyone. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have certain neuromuscular conditions, should not be treated. Your consultation covers all of this.
