Meet Our Owners

We are so excited to welcome Annelise Hedahl to the Skin Chic owner team.

Did you know? In 2016 Annelise was the ‘Face of Skin Chic’, nominated to represent Skin Chic for the year. Fast forward to 2025, and she is an owner!

Annelise is amazing. She loves Missoula, and it shows. She is a real estate agent, entrepreneur, mom, and all-around amazing person. We are so excited for this next chapter!

We sat with Annelise and Jennifer to talk about everything from skin care to advice on being an entrepreneur:

What drew you to the skin care field?

Annelise:

"What first drew me to skin care? Simple: Jen Clouse. I was lucky enough to be featured on an HGTV show about real estate and needed someone to do my makeup. I knew nothing about doing makeup, let alone my own. Jen graciously offered to do my makeup.

That’s when we really started talking about skin care. I was in my mid thirties and was starting a career in real estate and realizing the importance of how you present yourself. Having healthy skin is really important: It shows that you take care of yourself, and it so lovely to feel confident in your skin. And I that was the start of it.

And I am so grateful for it, and I’ve learned so much. I can see the benefits of taking good care of your skin, and am experiencing that even now. But just stay tuned. It'll only get better.”

Jennifer:

“So I happened across the esthetic industry actually by accident. I'm a psych major, I studied in Eastern Washington, and I started working for a dermatology clinic over there, helped them to start a medical spa when medical spas were just emerging. I carried that passion and excitement with me when I came to Montana, and had the privilege of taking Skin Chic from a small boutique to what it is today. It has been an absolute fun project and beautiful journey, and has even led me to being able to start an esthetic school and really uplift the esthetics community not only in Missoula, but Montana.”

What is the new vision for Skin Chic?

Jennifer:

“I don’t even know where to start! The last few months as we’ve been preparing for this transition have been so exciting it has absolutely sparked my love for owning a business, for esthetics, for wellness. This next stage is going to be incredible.”

Annelise:

“So many great things are coming! Think bigger, better… maybe even things we don’t realize quite yet. More holistic and more whole-health. More being in tune with yourself, and being the best, most beautiful version of yourself. I can’t wait—really wonderful, big things are going to come. “

How do you like to give back to the community?

Annelise:

“Over the years, I’ve sat on numerous boards, and participated in various non profits to meet a community need. I am a passionate contributor to Garden City Harvest, I support the Roxy Theater, and Mountain Home youth homes is a non profit that I really believe in. It is so important to address where the need in your community and see where you can contribute.”

Jennifer:

“I love to give back to Missoula by being a part of absolutely anything I can be— from children’s theater, to local donations for fundraisers. I love owning business because it gives me the opportunity to be creative in how I can support others.”

What is your favorite thing about coming to work?

Annelise:

“All the incredible women that work here. They are masters of their craft, and so good at what they do. It’s a delight to listen to them talk to their clients about their expertise. …And it’s just really fun— they are just some of the most lovely people that just make me laugh, and believe so much in what they do. That’s what makes it worthwhile to come here everyday.”

Jennifer:

“It’s two-fold. First, the women I work with make my days go by so quickly. Sometimes it gets challenging because I know I need to work, but I also want to catch up with them, see how their weekend was, hear what funny stories they have (and live vicariously through them).

The second part is when I get to start my day with my holistic facials—Incorporating healing sound into some of those. Starting my day that way is an absolute honor.

What have you learned as an entrepreneur and small business owner?

Annelise:

"You know, over the years, I have learned it's there's never too big of an idea, and you are going to be your biggest limit. Your mindset and your belief in yourself is what's going to limit you. So always go bigger— bigger than you think you should. Scare yourself a little bit, jumping off that cliff and experience the exhilarating feeling and fear all combined in the same thing. That's the path you want to follow.

And really, most importantly, surround yourself with the best. If you find that you're the smartest person in the room, there's a really good chance you're in the wrong room. So making sure that you have really amazing, interesting variety of people in your life that you can learn from is probably key."

Jennifer:

"I think what I have learned over the years of being an entrepreneur is the power in the ability to pivot, and pivot quickly. So many variables will come at you and knowing your business so well that you can pivot at any time and keep your business going is extremely important. The second part is making sure that you are passionate about the business that you have, the industry that you are in, because there will be hard days that you have to get up and still go to work. You have to be there for your team. So make sure that you are passionate about the job that you have."

What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur?

Annelise:

“It’s pretty simple: First, always answer your phone. No matter what the call is, even if you think it’s spam. You never know who is on the other line, and what opportunity is going to present itself.

Second, always go to lunch! When you get an invitation to go to meet someone or participate in something, absolutely take that when you’re getting started …join the networking group, join the board. It’s putting good things out in the universe for you, and opening up windows of opportunity. Go to lunch—listen and entertain what someone is going to offer you.”

Jennifer:

“Sit down and buckle up! As many things as you can prepare for, there will always be random things that come up that are going to challenge you. Stick with it, stay with it, knowing that life gives you so many lessons to learn… and just to be grateful and to have as much gratitude for those lessons as you can. That will really get you through!”
