How to Prep for Your Wax

Want smoother results and a more comfortable waxing experience? A little preparation goes a long way.

Before Your Appointment
Let your hair grow.
Avoid shaving for about 2–3 weeks before your appointment so the hair is long enough for the wax to grip, around ¼ inch.
Regularly exfoliate (but not right before your wax).
Exfoliate regularly to minimize dead skin buildup and reduce the risk of ingrown hairs. However, make sure you don't exfoliate for two days before your wax, to avoid increased sensitivity.
Skip the sun.
Avoid tanning and prolonged sun exposure before your appointment. Never wax sunburned or irritated skin.
Come with clean skin.
Don't apply heavy lotions, oils, or creams to the area before your appointment.
Know your skincare.
Tell your esthetician about any retinoids, exfoliating acids, or other products that may make your skin more sensitive.
After Your Wax

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid intense exercise, hot tubs, saunas, and excessive heat immediately afterward.
Talk to your esthetician about the right after-care product to keep your skin soft and healthy, and prevent ingrown hairs! We carry a range of post-wax products, including Tend Skin and Bush Balm.
